WowKeren - Mantan Wali Kota Palembang, Sumatera Selatan, Romi Herton telah menghembuskan nafas terakhirnya pada Kamis (28/9) pukul 02.00 WIB. Diwartakan CNN Indonesia, Romi meninggal dunia setelah mengalami sesak nafas dan kejang-kejang di Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Gunung Sindur Bogor, Jawa Barat.

Menurut pengacara Sirra Prayuna, Romi sempat dilarikan ke Rumah Sakit Hermina, Serpong, Tangerang Selatan. Namun, nyawanya tak tertolong. "Beliau memang punya riwayat sakit jantung, setelah kejang-kejang pihak Lapas Gunung Sindur membawa ke RS Hermina Serpong dini hari," ujar Sirra saat dikonfirmasi.

Mengutip Sriwijaya Post, jenazah Romi telah dikebumikan di TPU Kebun Bunga Palembang pada Kamis (28/9) malam. Rasa duka mendalam pun terlihat jelas pada anak kedua Romi, Nezzia Ayu Mudita Rachmawati Herton. Lewat akun Instagramnya, wanita yang kini tengah menempuh studi di Australia itu mencurahkan kesedihannya kehilangan sosok sang ayah.

Dalam bahasa Inggris, Nezzia mengatakan sangat patah hati, marah, sedih sekaligus ketakutan. Dia merindukan momen kebersamaannya dengan sang ayah. Bahkan, ia ingin sekali lagi mendengar suara omelan Romi.

Bersamaan dengan curahan hatinya yang cukup panjang, Nezzia juga mengunggah video saat Romi dan istrinya menyanyikan potongan lirik lagu Elvis, "Falling In Love With U".

Sebelum meninggal, Romi sendiri menghabiskan sisa hidupnya di tahanan. Bersama istrinya Masyito, Romi dinyatakan bersalah karena telah memberi suap kepada mantan Ketua Mahkamah Konstitusi Akil Mochtar sebesar Rp14,145 miliar dan USD 316.700 untuk mempengaruhi putusan perkara permohonan keberatan hasil Pilkada Kota Palembang yang sedang ditangani oleh Akil.
